It’s JCCI Singapore Foundation’s excellent honour to be awarded Friend of the Arts at the Patron of the Arts Awards (POAA) 2023!
This 24th award from POAA would not be a possible without the strong support from all JCCI members who have been supporting the Foundation throughout its journey contributing to the arts & cultural scenes in Singapore.
Since the Foundation was established in May 1990, with the collective efforts by JCCI members, we have made a considerable impact on the arts & cultural development in Singapore. Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2023 – New Illusion by Toshiki Okada, Jazz in July 2023 & A Tapestry of Sacred Music Festival by The Esplanade, concerts by Musicians’ Initiative and the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra are some of the recent projects the Foundation has a humble part to play in.
The Foundation strives to continue making meaningful contributions to the local community as one JCCI!

JCCI Singapore Foundation is a proud sponsor of this Japan field trip 😃Field Studies in Japan is an annual special term course spearheaded by A/P Chris McMorran. Every year, around 10 students take the course, which begins with four days of intensive classes on-campus. The course explores a theme each year, as students learn qualitative research methods and background on sites they will visit.
The 2023 course focused on “Heritage and Tourism” and headed to Kyushu in May. Every day students engaged with locals, tourists, and tourism professionals and kept detailed field studies journals. The course included visits to historical sites, including UNESCO sites, and students analysed how the sites were presented to tourists. One highlight was the visit to Sakitsu Village, where Japan’s “hidden Christians” managed to practise their religion despite persecution from the Tokugawa Shogunate.
As a culmination of the course, students curated photographs with captions to encapsulate their perspectives on the course. Starting tomorrow, for the next 8 days, the Department will share the 8 students’ images on Facebook. Also, each student has selected one image to hang in a special gallery in the JS Department for the next year.
We hope you enjoy the photos. We express thanks to the シンガポール日本商工会議所 Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Singapore-JCCI Foundation for their generous financial contributions for making this course a reality.
